"Left/right" assumes you're facing the direction of travel. Many Swiss trains have both forward- and rear-facing seats, so double-check your own seat's orientation. This shows the geometric sunny side only -- it doesn't account for clouds, tunnels, or trackside buildings.
How the percentage is worked out:
the route is split into short segments between the track's GPS points. For each segment we compute the sun's position at its midpoint and mid-time and compare it to the direction of travel there, putting that segment on whichever side the sun was on (or marking it "night" if the sun was below the horizon). Segments are weighted by distance, not travel time, and the percentage shown is that side's share of the daylight distance — 100% means the sun stayed on that side the whole time it was up.
